-MANUFACTURING PROCESSES-
PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES
Hailey Surgical Instruments is an employee-owned company of skilled craftsmen with a well-established reputation for quality and reliability. Our significant manufacturing steps are succinctly outlined as follows:
- MATERIAL SELECTION:
We consistently procure top-quality stainless steel materials from reputable manufacturers. We use two series, namely 300, 410, and 420, for the production of surgical instruments. - MATERIAL TESTING:
Prior to production, the purchased raw materials undergo rigorous testing by our Quality Assurance authority. We adhere to a stringent quality control policy to ensure that the steel meets the desired specifications, considering it a crucial factor in our business. - FORGING & SHAPING:
Following testing, stainless steel strips/bars are segmented into various sizes as per our requirements, and our highly skilled craftsmen are experts in forging (Hot/Cold Drop) to execute standard press operations for forming and deep drawing all types of instruments. We anneal the forging and prepare it for the milling process. - MACHINING & TOOLING:
Our experienced technicians possess profound knowledge of machine milling processes. We accurately shape the male/female components of box-joint forceps and create serrations/ratchets with precision. Our facility enables us to mill, drill, bore, turn, and grind various metals. We also have in-house capabilities for custom tool and die production, maintenance, and repair. - ASSEMBLY:
We specialize in hand-made fabrication. Initially, we assemble the male/female components after setting and adjusting Extracting Forceps and Scissors, ensuring that tips, serrations, and ratchets are uniform and precisely filed for a semi-finished product, all while strictly adhering to quality control specifications. We are transitioning from basic hand manufacturing techniques to mechanization for production runs. - HEAT TREATMENT:
All instruments are tempered to maintain “Rockwell Hardness” standards: Hemostat/Forceps at 40° to 45° degrees, Extracting Forceps & Retractor at 45º to 50º degrees, Scalar, Gauges, and Scalpel at 50° to 55º degrees, and Scissors at 45° to 55° degrees. We conduct hardness tests after tempering each batch to ensure uniformity, and before proceeding, we clean all instruments with various chemicals. Additionally, we plan to acquire specialized quality control equipment in the near future to meet specific customer requirements. - ASSEMBLY & WELDING:
We perform various assembly operations, from prototypes to production runs. We meticulously rivet each instrument, such as Hemostat/Forceps and Scissors, while spot welding is used for certain types of instruments. - GRINDING & POLISHING:
For precision grinding and a superb finish, we utilize polishing wheels and belts to achieve a high level of uniformity in the overall finish. Electroplating plants are used to polish serrations and joints of stainless steel instruments. Glass heads are employed to achieve uniformity for satin/matte finish instruments. All instruments undergo polishing while adhering to stringent quality control specifications. - PASSIVATION:
This step imparts corrosion resistance properties to the instruments. Passivation, conducted after the final polishing stage, involves a chemical bath that creates an oxidized layer on the instrument’s surface. We have adopted the most modern processes for this purpose. - ULTRASONIC CLEANING:
We are equipped with state-of-the-art ultrasonic cleaning plants imported from “Branson Cleaning Equipment Co., USA.” All instruments are thoroughly cleaned using various chemicals, such as Tri-Chloroethylene. - INSPECTION & MARKING:
We subject all instruments to rigorous quality control inspections, assuring our clients that the instruments are free from defects such as burrs, sharp edges, cracks, pitting, scratches, excess grease/oil, and foreign matter. Workmanship is also guaranteed. For marking, we employ both die sinking and electrolytic methods, following customer specifications. - PACKAGING & LABELING:
We adhere to strict quality control specifications when packaging instruments, in line with customer preferences. Typically, we individually pack instruments in polybags, with 12 pieces in each box. The outside of the box is labeled with the Part Number, Description, and Lot Number. To prevent moisture, all instruments are packed in polybags with sufficient desiccant. We tailor our packaging and labeling to meet customer demands.
